District Committed to Providing Alternative Educational Options for Students and Parents Vision: The Board of Education believes in providing students and parents with alternative academic options for student learning. The board is committed to supporting and expanding these options through the district's alternative K - 12 Independent Study School. Board Approval: On June 26, 2006, the Board of Education approved the formation of the district's alternative Independent Study School. The district has submitted an application to the California Department of Education for state approval of the independent study school. Curricular Offerings: Students and/or parents may voluntarily seek enrollment in the district's K-12 Independent Study School. The school offers two curricular options as described below: * K-12 Independent Study School - Certified staff members assign work based upon the student's grade level and/or individual need. Students report to the school site at least once a week to meet with his/her independent study teacher. The teacher reviews assignments completed, provides academic support as needed and plans future assignments for the student. Other school sites may refer parents/students to the Independent Study School. Staff: All programs in the Independent Study School will be staffed with NCLB (No Child Left Behind) compliant teachers and staff.
