REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP)
DISTRICT OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM
All proposals shall be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on July 12, 2010
Introduction
Due to the unprecedented cuts imposed by the State of California, the Las Virgenes Unified School District is seeking to contract with a provider to implement our 5th Grade Outdoor Education program.
Background
The Las Virgenes School District has been running a 5-day 4-night outdoor education program for it’s 5 graders for over 30 years This program is part of the science curriculum that we have been offering our 5th graders, with focus on Outdoor Education lessons in wildlife, ecology, water conservation, cultural history lessons. This is an eight (8) week program with a different elementary school and a different number of students each week totaling approximately 800 students total, 25 staff, and about 120 counselors from our two (2) high schools.
Over the past few years with significant reduction in funding from the State, the Outdoor Education program must be a break-even program for it to be continued in the curriculum. Since every child is offered the program regardless of ability to pay, schools have been doing fund raising specifically for this to be a reality.
Qualifications
History – Provide a brief description of your firm’s history, and number of years in providing this service. Describe the pertinent experience of the specific individual who will be assigned to handle the Las Virgenes School District program. Also, describe their experience in working with public school districts.
Expertise- Outline the company’s professional experience in this field and any professional licensing you may have. All proposals should have a complete schedule of activities, and food menu for the week. In addition please address your ability to meet the needs of all students without regard to physical and mental abilities, and describe your health services. If you have particular chaperoning needs please list them. Also, please indicate the role of high school counselor and certificated teacher as a part of your program.
References- Proposals must include no less than three (3) references. Each reference should include the name of the company, contact person, and contact information (including address, telephone number and email address).
Payment Structure
Please provide a fee structure for a complete program based on a 4-night 5-day schedule.
Termination
The district shall have the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate the agreement by giving thirty (30) days written notice to the selected provider. There shall be no grace period after giving notice of termination.
